  1. Chinese New Year in 2019 begins on Tuesday the 5th of February and ends on the 19th. According to the Chinese 12-year animal zodiac cycle, the Chinese year beginning in 2019 is the year of the Pig. Each Chinese zodiac year begins on Chinese New Year's Day.
    Chinese New Year, also known as the "Spring Festival" in modern Mainland China, is China's most important traditional festival, celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar, which consists of both Gregorian and lunar-solar calendar systems. Chinese New Year can begin anytime between late January and mid-February.

    Make a Wooden Spoon Chinese Dragon - Easy to follow instructions and great fun to make.

    Materials required –
    Foam or Felt Sheets in assorted colours
    Wooden Spoons
    Wooden Craft/Lolly Sticks
    P.V.A Glue
    Self Adhesive Wiggly Eyes
    String or Wool
    Ribbons in assorted colours, patterns and widths
    Acrylic Paint in assorted colours

    Instructions –
    First of all paint your wooden spoon and a craft stick for every dancing dragon you wish to make and leave to completely to dry. These create the head and the tail of your dragon.
    Cut a 45-60cm length of string / wool. Cut ribbons in 25cm lengths and simply knot them along your length of string at 1.5-2cm intervals. This is to create the move-able body of your dragon.
    Glue one end to your painted craft stick.
    Using the foam sheets or felt cut-out spiky dragon shapes (see black and white drawing), nose etc. Glue on spikes, nose and wiggly eyes and leave to dry. 
    Attach the other end of your ribbon tail to the back of your wooden spoon.
    Now by holding your wooden spoon and wooden craft stick in each hand you make your dragon dance simply by movement.

    Make a Paper Plate Lantern

    Materials required –
    White Paper Plates (4 for each lantern)
    Crepe Paper in assorted colours
    Paints in assorted colours or Colouring Pens/Pencils
    Stapler
    P.V.A Glue
    White Card for handles or use string
    Corrugated Card Nature Shapes

    Instructions –
    Decorate your paper plates using paint, felt tip pens, colouring pencils or wax crayon, four are required per lantern stapling or gluing on your nature shapes for extra embellishment. Slightly curve your decorated plates and staple the edges together to form your lantern. Cut assorted crepe paper strips approx 60-80cm x 2cm to form brightly coloured ribbons and attach to bottom of your lantern again using P.V.A glue. Attach a cardboard strip to form handle or attach a string one. Add more corrugated shapes to the handle.
    Great for a classroom display. Hang and enjoy :-)
